Using Wallcoverings to Enhance the Patient Experience

With the new year still in its infancy, we’re reflecting on recent trends we’ve noticed in the hospitality industry--and anticipating what’s next. We’re seeing more boutique medical offices popping up, offering everything from dental care to women’s health with a new, hospitality-inspired approach. These offices are designed to create a more pleasant, human-centered experience. Enhancing the patient experience encourages return visits, which is critical for non-essential medical practices such as skincare. With many options, patients are more likely to choose an office that suits their lifestyle and makes them feel like they’re receiving a luxury service rather than a run-of-the-mill doctor’s office visit. Interior designers are working with unique, often organic shapes and nature-inspired materials to make lobbies and treatment rooms more comfortable. Naturally, wallcoverings are a part of this design alongside other FF&E. Below are three projects that have featured Astek wallcovering to set the tone of the space or establish the office’s brand even further.

Tia

Tia is a women’s healthcare clinic that provides comprehensive care from skincare to OB/GYN services. With locations in LA, New York, San Francisco, and Scottsdale, Tia provides women’s healthcare in an environment that’s anything but sterile. Their strong branding, full of sunset hues and oversized organic shapes, carries through their online presence and physical spaces. On Point Design Build seamlessly incorporated the organic, flowing lines and warm hues of Tia’s branding into the physical space. Custom front desks, geometric furniture, and curved doorways are complemented by the lobby mural. The mural (designed by the On Point team) features abstract lines that recall lines of the female body, without being too literal and kitschy. Astek designers tweaked and color-matched the artwork to perfection until it harmonized perfectly with the other elements in the space. The result is an on-brand interior designed to make patients feel comfortable and supported– and keep them coming back.

Flycatcher

Flycatcher is a men’s medical spa, aimed at providing men with top-notch skincare treatments to help them look and feel their best. Flycatcher’s branding embraces design references of the 20th century, feeling a little art deco, a little midcentury, and a little Mad Men. The resulting blend feels elevated, classy, and swanky– and is applied with perfection across their website, social media presence, and physical office space. This office is another example of strong branding carrying over to the interior design. The curated palette of blue, orange, and gold, plus strong geometric shapes, is easily translated into a lobby and treatment rooms that feel ultra-luxe. In the lobby, built-in shelves are backed with custom wallcoverings printed by Astek. The pattern (designed by the Simour Design team) echoes the geometry of the logo and is printed on silver mylar for extra shine. The completed space feels luxurious, masculine, clean, and, most of all, on brand.

Alora Dental Spa

It’s in the name - dental “spa” implies that this is not your average dentist’s office. Alora offers dental and med spa services in a luxury environment, all under one roof, to help patients feel their most confident. On Point Design Build’s vision for the space is light, airy, and a little bit glam, very different from traditional dental offices. Wallcoverings are used throughout the building to add beauty to blank spaces and elevate the patient experience: in the bathrooms and get-ready nooks, Astek’s wallcoverings make the ordinary into something special. Our Seagrass wallcovering in the sink area of the bathrooms adds a rich, abstract watercolor vision of life under the sea while coordinating with the Tiffany-blue sink. In the get-ready nook, our whimsical Mystic Garden wallcovering adds a moment of surprise and delight– you can easily spend the two minutes brushing your teeth by hunting for all the little creatures in the pattern. The pink and blue-gray hues of the wallcovering vibe perfectly with the chair and cabinetry below. Overall, the effect is a dentist’s office that feels special and glamorous, making patients themselves feel special and glamorous. Instead of a dentist’s appointment being something to avoid, the design of Alora’s space elevates the dentist experience and makes it something to look forward to.

2025 is already well underway, and we can’t wait to see what other boutique medical offices are designed in the coming year! We’re looking forward to seeing all the ways interior designers continue to innovate to improve patient experience and wellbeing at medical offices, as well as how they use wallcoverings to do so.
