How Gyms Are Creating Inviting Atmospheres

Fitness studios and gyms can be a motivational space and communal experience for many. Gym-goers often become “regulars” and pride themselves on various goals and relationships created in these spaces. However, we’ve noticed a shift in the designs of these establishments as they drift further away from dated, industrial aesthetics. As we see the interiors of gyms becoming more welcoming and human-centered, we see an increase in the use of bold and colorful wallcoverings to achieve this. In this article, we look at three workout facilities that utilize wallcoverings for a pleasing fitness experience.

1. The Steward

Situated in Santa Barbara’s lush landscape, this hotel’s design plays into its surrounding botanical beauty. This particular stands out in the establishment’s fitness center. Differentiating itself from the typical gray and black industrial look, this California hideaway opts for a tranquil atmosphere in its gym using our Verdure mural. A neutral background paired with lush greenery gives this space a unique feeling that encourages wellness and community. Project done in collaboration with SAND Design.

2. AVA RiNO

Done in collaboration with the design firm Degen & Degen, the AVA RiNo apartment community in Denver aims to provide a unique living experience paired with many attractive amenities for its residents while paying homage to its city’s culture. One of the most significant elements of this living space is its fitness center. Tying in the neighborhood’s love of all things artistic, the gym space features a custom-printed design on a gold mylar material that adds just the right amount of eye-catching detail. Complementing craft-framed mirrors and vintage sports equipment give a typically dull space the extra touch of elevated comfort for all gym-goers.

3. Surfside Residence Inn

With views of the Atlantic Ocean and an ideal location, Residence Inn by Marriott Miami Beach Surfside aims to be a coastal getaway complete with amenities for guests both working and relaxing. Of course, this means gym access, as well. Done with Jacki Arena Interiors, a playful custom mural printed by us plays into the beachside location of the hotel. Although the wallcovering only appears on one wall, it is a simple solution to add a warm, welcoming touch to a space that may initially come off as daunting or intimidating.
